We bent the steps on a recent trip and they wouldn't open. The vertical walls were bent about 45 degrees from vertical.
I tried removing the steps and couldn't, the bolts just turned with the nuts and I couldn't get to the heads of the bolts.
I put the jack from my pickup in the space that was bent into a parallelogram. With a variety of pieces of 2 x 4 to stabilize the jack and put the force in the right place, I was able to bend the sides back to vertical.
Turned out to be easier than I expected.
