What do you carry for protection?

This is a very interesting question. I have no weapons but have been urged to get at least one while we RV. So many of you do have weapons. I am curious how you have had to use them. Obviously actually shot someone but also used it to scare potential threats off. With all this need for protection there must be many stories of break ins while in your RV or other circumstances where you used your gun. That leads me to the next question. Based on experience is it better to have a large rifle or a pistol?

Bear Spray purchased in Alaska. I figure if it'll deter a 700lb Brown Bear it'd probably deter someone with bad intentions without being lethal. I would hate to fire off a round and then discover I had mis-interpreted the situation.
