I've used the self repair kits at least a half dozen times and never had a problem. Follow the instructions to a t and you'll be fine. Of course, if your insurance company pays it for you, have it done. But if they don't, $13 is a whole lot cheaper than $99, especially if you have more than one chip to repair. And, the self repair kits do the same thing as the professional jobs.
