The only folks I really see chipping are trust fund kids with more money than they know what to do with so they don't care about the warranty.
And there you have it! The general, consensus opinion as found on the grumpy old man forum. - alboyExplorerI ran a edge tuner on my 06 cummins ,new till I sold it.Made the truck a pleasure to drive, a real dog without it.The new trucks have so much performance plus good fuel mileage,im a performance nut but wouldn't begin to even want to play with the new Dmax.
- Me_AgainExplorer IIISo, I bought a 8 year 120K extended warranty, the only second warranty I have ever purchased. The first one was on my first VCR deck, never needed it. The only thing I plan on changing under the hood of the 15 is the oil and filters.
I was my own warranty station on the 2001.5 RAM, those days are over! I see no reason to mess with a DEF equiped diesel truck, they run and tow just fine, and get good mileage for a 4 ton monster.
Chris - gmcsmokeExplorergood luck finding a company still offering delete tunes and when you find one expect to pay big time. Motor ops is the only one I know of and they are at $1100
- rickeoniExplorerChipping? With todays technology get a tune written for your specific truck and what you want to do.
I waited till warranty over and had the most awesome towing tune written. Lower EGTs, better mileage and no rolling coal. Also had a trans tune added at the same time. Granted my truck is one generation removed from new, so what did I have to lose. - Grit_dogNavigatorNot sure if this is a serious question or if you just lobbed a stink bait over the side at trolling speed, lol..... But yes, a lot of options for newer dpf and def trucks.
Get off the blue hair forum and read up on it on your favorite diesel truck forum for more info....... - boogie_4wheelExplorerChipping is so '2005'. The thing to do now is custom tunes, EFI-Live, 5-Star, and the other similars. Piggybacking is old school. But yes, there are tons of newer (and older) truck that are being altered for more power (and sometimes more fuel economy).
Vehicle longevity depends on the amount of added power, how it was added, and your driving habits. My parents '95 PSD boosted to 500ft-lb went 240k before the torque converter finally started slipping, '01 Cummins HO with Edge EZ has 270k with no ill effects, and I have an Edge Juice on my '05 that I don't turn up too much (but with only 113k) that I don't foresee any mechanical issues happening with.
I've got a friend with a hot EFILive turned LBZ that has mid 200k on it now, working it for a living and playing on the side, 35-37" tires, and the trans just started giving him some slipping a few months, but he drives like a jackass. Got another friend with a '12 Cummins with H&S, laid just shy of 1100ft-lb to the ground on 35" tires, tows a 3-axle toyhauler with it all the time.
On a brand new truck, I wouldn't mess with it, at least not delete it. I might run a small increase in power after the warranty expires. Shoot, even my current truck needs to pass emissions inspection. - Cummins12V98Explorer IIIWhen these places like Bank's for example start spouting "Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act" when you ask about your warranty just ask them to put it in writing that they will financially support you in court. I already know the answer.
If you add a tuner while your engine is under warranty, RAM for example will be able to detect you had a tuner and they WILL deny your warranty plain and simple. I have talked to the head West Coast Chrysler warranty rep about this.
Bottom line I tow 32,500# combined weight and I feel no need to touch the truck. It actually outpulls on the same grades along I-5 compared to my 98 12V tuned to 300HP/750TQ at the rear wheels towing a combined 20,500#. - agesilausExplorer IIIIf you look in the Ford Diesel Suppliment it warns that using a 'performance chip' voids your warranty and also warns that use of the chip is recorded by the trucks computer system so removing the chip system will not hide its use.

The party is over. Not everyone wants to accept that, but it is true. Those that are deleting now are kinda like those here that rationalize themselves into believing that their TV can handle more than it's capable of.... IOW, they think they will get away with it.
The thing is, it's not just the law, or the emission tests (and if testing isn't in your area now, it will be at some point) but when it comes time to trade it in, no Dealer will touch a deleted truck. That's when the crying will start.
Just throw all the **** in the shed and slap it back on when time to sell. No biggie...
