I found a self repair kit at WalMart that I find works MUCH better than the others. It is made by Glass Star America. The part number is 410. It has a syringe in the kit. I tried other kits such as the one made by rain-x and it did not work well. This kit is easy and if caught early, makes the repair almost invisible.
If you go through your insurance company, many have separate glass deductibles. If you don't pay for the glass deductible, your normal deductible applies for windshield replacement. Yes, you can get your windshield repaired and they will waive the deductible, but they are NOT waiving the claim that goes on your record. Get a few of those and try to shop around for insurance. They show up as comprehensive claims and enough of them WILL affect your rates.
By the way, I have used the kit I listed above about 4 times for small bullseye or spider cracks on my windshield on my dodge. Some are almost invisible and some are just a little lighter than they were originally depending on how soon I repaired it. I have peace of mind knowing that they probably won't spread being that they were repaired. Also, the glass repair companies advertise that the repair is invisible, but they will NOT guarantee that they are invisible, so you are in the same boat as with a self repair kit.
