greyghost - The American line is one of the best ever built. When we were looking they were on my short list. Like you we just found one we really loved and bought it. The year your new one is is great. Before the economic meltdown and so the makers were still all working to make the best possible rig and had the staff to do it.
It concerns me a bit that your acceleration is less than your old coach. Check your computer on yours to see what the max boost pressure it next time you drive it up a hill. Mine runs about 25-26 psi. I am not positive what the right boost is for your motor, but lots of people that read this forum can tell you. Since I replaced the intercooler in ours two months ago ours is acting like a sports car. Yours should too.
As far as California roads. Some are really really bad rough and 3rd World. We drove up 99 and I 5 last week and until we got north of Sacramento very rough. You should check to make sure the inflation on your tires is right. Too much air will make for a harder than necessary ride. Old rubber tends to ride a bit harder. So check the build dates on your tires. If older than six year you might consider replacement.
Sounds like you have a great coach. Buy some oil company stock so you can get back some of the money you will be paying for the $4.25 per gal diesel.
