What extras should I insist on in a new Class C

I am on a mission to buy my first RV, a 26 to 28 foot C Class. Besides the normal stuff, what extras should I insist on? Do I need to get airbags, Saf-T-locks, or whatever. Which things make RVing more enjoyable.

  • Here's some extras and features to think about, some of which our Class C came with and some which I wish ours had come with. These are not "fancy over the top" items - just items that make Class C camping more comfortable, more reliable, and more flexible during all seasons, in all locations, and in all weather conditions that you may either plan for, or get surprized with ... whether it be with full hookup camping or drycamping:

    1) Pay extra for OEM or dealer installed additional battery capacity.

    2) Pay extra for automatric (electric) entrance steps for the coach.

    3) Pay extra for insulated tanks or electric heating pads on them.

    4) Pay extra for a full size spare tire and wheel.

    5) Pay extra for OEM (not dealer) installed solar roof panels.

    6) Pay extra for double pane windows.

    7) Pay extra for a larger capacity air conditioner.

    8) Pay extra for a larger capacity propane furnace.

    9) Pay extra for a multi-stage charger/converter.

    10) Pay extra for a two-speed propane furnace.

    11) Pay extra for a tank flushing system.

    12) Pay extra for a fully equipped galley - i.e. three or four propane burners in the stove top and a propane oven underneath - in addition to a microwave or combination microwave/convection oven ... IF and ONLY IF you also include a regular propane oven as a backup to a the convection oven.

    13) Pay extra for an undersink fresh water filtration system in the galley.

    14) Pay extra for at least one 3-speed, reversable roof fan - preferrabley two of them at opposite ends of the coach.

    15) Pay extra for OEM installed or dealer installed vent covers on all roof vents.

    16) Pay extra for all LED lighting throughout the coach.

    17) Pay extra for a built-in black water tank flushing system.

    18) Pay extra for a black water macerator system ONLY IF it can be gotten along with, for backup, the standard 3 inch flexible hose dumping system.

    19) Pay extra, if required, for a built-in generator that is powered by the same fuel and is coming from the same tank ... as the main engine's fuel.
  • Definitely need at least 1 slide if not more in the MH. The inverter would be a great addition as would the levelers.
  • Automatic levellers would be top of my list.
Electric awning is also really nice to have.
  • An inverter, of at least 2500 watts. Having an RV in which you have to start the generator to brew a cup of coffee seems ludicrous to me, and I'll never have another one.
  • These are not big things but have been important to me:
grab bars on the entrance - big, easy to use and sturdy. I have the fold-in one on the outside and the long vertical bend-out one on the inside. Also a grab bar for the screen door.
    Vent covers on the roof.
    Tire pressure monitor system.
    Power side-view mirrors.
I think all new units come with rear view cameras these days.
