What is a "B+"?

For the past 6-7 years I have followed the "B" forum on RV.Net. They were very stubborn about defining a "B" as the original van configuration. I attended the B7 Rally in Ohio 4 years ago and when a "Winnebago View" showed up it caused quite a stir. I pick up my Navion 24G this Tuesday. This model does not have a bed over the front cab. Would this be considered a B+ on this forum? I am enjoying reading this forum and hope to meet many of you "down the road"!
  • I understand the definitition of A, B, B+, and C is all about what the RV manufacture starts with. What they end up with might not always make sense.

A starts with a stripped chassis

B starts with a cargo van

B+ and C starts with a cutaway chassis
    B+ = aerodynamic cap
    C = cabover bed

Most often, the B, B+, and C chassis marketed specifically for the RV industry will have nicer front grill work, power windows, door locks, stereo, a/c and other ammenities. They often get a heavy duty alternator to meet the demand of RVing. B+s and Cs get NO outside mirrors, NO back wall, and only a $2 cheap cafeteria driver seat along with other odd deletions. This because RV manufactures install their own. The missing back wall is a thick sheet of plastic that gets removed during RV assembly. The cutaway also comes with two different length antennas...a standard height and a short one that clears a cabover bed. The RV manufacture decides which to install. There are numerous other deviations that I didn't cover.

I could not find a picture of a motor home chassis, but here is one marketed for box truck applications with mirrors and seats. You get the idea.
  • I am basically a trouble-maker! Thanks for the responses! Hope to meet all you "C - What-evers" as we start this new adventure.
  • SO, is C+ really an A-. IF so, would it qualify to park with the Class A snobs in their exclusive coumpounds?
  • houdy,we have a b+, 09monaco Montclair. and its a 29ft. three slides, and only-10.8 high. drives like a dream, I can truly say its a great rv wow good idea. ours been good for us.imho, the class-a-s aint got nothing on us---wow and now its all happy-camping
  • A B+ is a state of mind. Just a marketing ploy .
Just a C without the Rug Rat room over the cab.

    Our Aspect is a C.
  • You own a Winnebago/Itasca Navion. Winnebago does not make B+'s. They make Class A, Class B, and Class C motorhomes. When I look at information for your MH at the Itasca site they show it as a Diesel, Class C.

Class A... Built from the ground up by the manufacturer.

Class B... Built by customizing/gutting a stock van delivered by Chevy, Ford, Dodge, etc.

Class C... Built by starting with the cab/engine components delivered by Chevy, Ford, Dodge, etc. but building everything else.

A B+ is simply a streamlined class C. B+ was created by marketing types because some thought a Class C had to have a bed over the cab look. Besides B+ sounds better than a C-.
