Of course Michelin LTX M&S2 tires have steel in the tread area ... plus the more agressive tread design for less than smooth surfaces. LTX M&S2 tires have some exotic synthetic sidewall belting with a name I can't pronounce (improved over the older LTX M&S sidewall material).
The steel belting in the XPS tire sidewalls is intended for better abrasion resistance against curbs for commercial trucks on the job. The LTX M&S2 tires have a 70,000 mile tread wear warranty, versus the 60,000 mile old M&S tires tread wear warranty. No one will leave tires on their RV for that many miles. What that warranty really means to an RV'er is that at, say, 40,000 miles when they do replace M&S2 tires on an RV ... they'll most likely have a tread surface and entire tire that was a bit safer and more reliable leading all the way up to that point.
