What price to replace the engine water pump in a workhorse?

My 15 yr. old workhorse with 8.1 engine is in need of a new water pump. Just looking to someone that has had the pump changed. Just would like to know what it is gonna take out of the budget. M...

Its a big block Chev water pump---where in the he!! is $800--$1000 in that deal? Our shop used to change the whole motor for $1000 labor in a van or MH. Might take someone with no experience a while longer to change the pump but its not rocket science, its a water pump
