Mine took ME about 3 1/2 hours and the water pump cost me about $250. Once it was apart, I also changed the lower radiator hose, the smaller coupling hose, thermostat, serpentine belt, and idler pulleys. Obviously these add an additional $100 in parts PLUS the cost of antifreeze. Make sure that when they replace the lower radiator shroud that they check it's clearance from the water pump fan.
I think you can expect a hit of about $800-$1000 to pay a shop to do it.
I should add that there are less expensive water pumps out there that will fit the 8.1L engine. The problem is that you need the extra heavy duty one that has the larger front bearing to handle the weight of the heavy fan clutch and fan. It was GM part# 89017773 on a 2003 chassis several years ago.
