Wheel Bearing Packing

Greetings fellow Rv'ers, 1fanman here with a question, I can't find anywhere in my manual as to when and how often I should have my wheel bearings checked and repacked. Can any one help me here. Thanks and will appreciate any advise. BTW, my Bounder now has approxiametly 24000 miles on it.

What I do is jack the front wheels off the ground and wiggle the tire top to bottom to check for play. When I bought the MH it had 24k miles and had excessive play. I re tightened both front wheel bearings. In 70 k miles I have re tightened twice and repacked once.

Thanks I will do this and since it doesn't seem to be a concern I will just check them periodically. I appreciate the advice. Happy motering and keep it between the ditches. 1fanman/aka Del

If it is not mentioned I am guessing 100K miles perhaps if they are packed. If they are sealed bearings then when you hear a noise or otherwise informed.

    What chassis do you have?

    Workhorse W22

  • The Ford F-Series Super Duty Class A Motorhome and Commercial Chassis Owner's Manual recommends repacking the wheel bearings and replacing the seals at 60,000 mile intervals.
  • There should be a seperate manual for the F53 chassis. My F53 manual came in a Ford black cloth folder about 5" X 7". It will list required service mileage.

  • If you have a Workhorse your front wheels are oil filled and don't need anything more than a check in the glass to be sure the oil is there.
  • I know this is probably Apples and Oranges, but our tech said every 30,000 miles. I have wet hubs on the rear and packed on the front.

    MM.
  • Your Bounder I suspect is on a ford F53 chassis which should't need the front wheel bearings looked at before a needed brake job.
