In my experience, the T-handles usually supplied are flimsy and you're better served with a standard socket, extension and breaker bar. While those nuts holding the covers on aren't supposed to be torqued on too tightly, they either manage to tighten themselves or, probably more commonly, the techs who put them on last torqued the heck out of them.
My original T-handle wrench just didn't have enough leverage to remove them in some instances, and it just started twisting when I put a pipe over the end.
Granted, they shouldn't be on that tight, but sometimes they are.
