Definitely check the breather. My TV had a breather that consisted of a fitting with a cap that was supposed to release pressure as the differential heated up. First seal failure and I took out the "inverted cap" vent. Installed a brass fitting with hose barb on it, added some fuel tank vent hose and ran the open end up into the frame where it would be away from direct dirt and water spray. No more seal issues although other owners of the same vehicle have been complaining for years about lousy seals.
VENT the axle housing and don't rely on any inverted cap type vents.
