I went to a big rig shop this morning. They are autorized dealer for Cummins, International truck, Spicer Axle, etc., and they do DOT annual mandatory inspection and repair on big truck.
The vent is OK. It is just a metal fitting and a small plastic tube with a straight hole, plus a bent rubber tube at the end. He did put his finger in the hole in the differential, nothing there, He blew in it no problem. He also checked the oil and it is OK. He roughly checked the wheel bearing looseness and did not find any obvious problem, all is ok. He did not have time to take the wheel off, need an apointment.
He said if he takes it apart, he will probably end up using a unitized seal but he has to find the right one. He was very suspiscious about installation at the other shop and was wondering if they use the proper installation tools.
