LPG TANKS and PORTABLE LPG CYLINDERS (also called bottles) ARE NOT THE SAME THING. Different construction (tanks are much heavier), different safety features, different rules for inspection and certification.
A lot of people call portable cylinders tanks, that causes enough confusion because they think rules for cylinders apply to tanks. Retail clerks filling LPG cylinders and tanks also get confused about what rules apply. A sure sign of confusion would be calling your permanently mounted tank a cylinder.
Your propane hardware dealer (which includes most wholesalers and some large retailers) is qualified to evaluate the condition of the LPG tank on your motorhome. This would include figuring out whether the rust on the tank is a structural problem or a cosmetic problem, and whether to replace the tank or do something about putting a stop to the corrosion.
