When leaving for the day...

This question is not particular to Class C's, but to motorhomes in general.

We do not have a tow vehicle. How do we mark the campsite as occupied when we have to leave for the day? I believe Camping World used to have a sign you could buy that said "This Campsite is taken", which they no longer sell.

What do all of you do when you have to leave for the day?

  • I usually stay at NFS campgrounds. I've got my reservation printed and the tag on the site post. If someone takes my spot, i'll politely ask them to move. If they don't, I contact the ranger station.

I've never had it happened. I expect it's more of a thing at RV Parks (where mgmt seems to make the mistake) or National parks and other high desirability locations where folks think it's worth trying to do it.
  • Just hang some of the crime scene tape and chalk a body outline on the site pad...

Chances are pretty good no one will try to take it.

    :S
  • Never had any real sure fire way of keeping people from taking over my site when I was gone. Heck they'll even take your "Site Occupied" sign. Once we had gone into town after registering for a site and within an hour and a half, came back to find someone parked in our site. Told the manager who said they "accidentally" placed another party there. So, they told me I could park in an area behind some bushes and some buildings instead of the ocean view site we were originally promised. I told him where he could "park" it!
  • We have feisty neighbors/security guards. A few years back we left our c/s at Bryce Canyon NP to run out of the park to grab something to eat (we were overnighting) and when we returned an hour or two later, we were told by our neighbors that they had to chase a squatter away while we were gone. True story.

Some folks use orange warning cones with "OCCUPIED" on them. Some just leave some basic stuff, camp chairs maybe, to make the place look "lived in". Other leave their big rig, and use the towed to run errands. ;)
  • we have a orange cone ,painted on it taken, will be back soon. so far nobodies bothered it.
