Where to buy a spare tire for E450?

So I'm looking to buy a spare tire for my E450 based class C. I called the local Ford dealer in town and they quoted me a price of $498.82 for one (1) wheel. Does that sound right? I checked discount tire online and couldnt find anything.

Anybody have any thoughts? I dont need any fancy wheels. Just enough to keep me going to take it to get it repaired.

Thanks

  • I keep my mounted spare in the rear storage area. If I hit something hard enough to cause that wheel to come through the wall, I'm already dead. BTW, I bought mine from the RV dealer where I bought the 'C'.
  • I got a spare wheel through discount tire. It was not brand new and a pull off. Was charged $140 for it. Was in a pinch for time so I went with it. It fits in the back of our Yaris that we tow on a tow dolly. Works good. Just take it out when we want to use the car since there is 3 of us. I'm satisfied.
  • If you add a spare, you will need a secure mount for it. A loose wheel/spare in the cargo area can do damage in a sudden stop.
  • I had the same sticker shock when shopping for a wheel for my spare (E-350 Class C). The dealer quoted me $417 but my local tire guy found a brand new wheel for $97. I used Fletcher Tires here in Arizona but don't know if they have any shops in Colorado. Find a good independent tire guy, if mine could get me a deal they should be able to get one for you. No need to pay more than $100.

  • If your looking for a plain Jane steel wheel try a local auto salvage. Just make sure it a Ford wheel and not off a GM or Dodge. It's got to due with the way it rides on the hub. It will a round center hole. (can't recall exactly what the term is but wheels on the hub and not on the lug studs.)

I have a local tire chain here in town I use. It is called "Raleigh Tire" and has maybe 3 or 4 locations here. I trust them more than people who don't specialize in tires.
