I appreciate the help. Now the question is where to find this "old time a/c person". I have searched google until i'm blue in the face. There was a ford expansion valve that looked very close to the block type that I took off yesterday. I have a few places to call on tuesday, and I will update what information I have incase others are trying to do the same and repair theirs.
Try:
Arizona Mobile Air
3601 W. Clarendon, Phoenix, AZ
They are online as ACKits.com and also run the AutoAC Forum. The forum has several "old timer" AC guys and some young hipster types, too. They do a great job of fielding questions from shade tree mechanics all over the world who are trying to get their old jalopys' air to blow cold.
I knew absolutely nothing about A/C when I started, and using what I learned from them, I got my '93 coach cool as a cucumber.
As for your hard-to-find parts, just go on the forum and post some decent pictures of the old parts. They'll get you fixed up. Their prices seemed pretty good to me when I was shopping around.
