We'll be parking our B in a friend's driveway and staying in it for a few weeks. We'll use their water & electric, but where can we go to dump black water in a large city?
Would it not be simpler to just use your friends bathroom? - Arizona_KidExplorerThe portable Flojet Macerator comes in it's own box, with cabled alligator clips to attach to the chassis battery. It has it's own fuse wired into the on/off switch.
Using a 3/4" garden hose, it will pump 50' or more, to a sewer clean-out, depending on the upslope.
I have used mine for years pumping up about a 3' grade. Easy to keep clean by just flushing with the grey water.
I did have to add about 10 more feet onto the alligator cables.
One more thing, you need to attach a clear piece of pipe between the macerator, and the end where the slinky comes out. This is so you can shut the pump off as soon as the tank is empty. This will prevent running the pump dry, and over heating it, which I believe is the cause of a lot the macerator problems that users are having, both portable, and built in.
No one is running a hose to a toilet through my house either. :E - Francesca_KnowlExplorerPer using a macerator pump and dumping into your host's toilet:
I think of myself as an excellent and accommodating hostess, but there is NO WAY I would allow a guest to string a sewer hose through my house to a toilet and pump the contents of their black tank into it.
. - mlts22ExplorerThis isn't too hard to solve unless money is extremely tight. The macerator pump is workable but it is something that would have to be toted along, and put in its own plastic tub for obvious reasons. It also needs 20 amps of 12 volt power, so either it needs a pair of jumper cables so it can run from another battery, or one would need a "poop battery" to bring along to run the pump. Some "B"s like the Travato that pump the grey tank can't really be used with a macerator pump.
However, a macerator pump is versatile. You can empty the tanks in a toilet, in a clean-out, and you can do it even if the dump place is uphill and up to 100 feet away. If staying at the friend's driveway quite option, it might be an idea to have the pump and battery (with a trickle charger) remain at the friend's house so it isn't taking up space.
Of course, the cheaper solution is finding a nearby dump station, which is a lot cheaper and less time wasted than using a pump. - Gene_in_NEExplorer II

One small town sewage plant I stopped at just told me to back up to their open settling tanks, put the end of the hose over the edge, and let fly. No charge. Worked fine other than not having a fresh water hose to rinse out with. I dunno if management in a larger city might be pickier.
Jim, "Veni, Vedi, Visa... I came, I saw, I did a little shopping."
We often dump at our town's local sewage treatment facility in exactly the same way as Jim describes. No charge as well. Will probably be going there on Monday in preparation for winterizing (sigh...) - obgrahamExplorerJust go to a neighboring campground, pay them the $5 or whatever, and be done with it.

I use my sewer clean out in my driveway,, Actually I got lucky, I have 2 clean outs, One at the top of the drive and one at the sidewalk, and there is the one in the street! Check the street in front of your house,, probably a small cover out in front that says sewer on it.
Believe it or not some people live in rural areas with no sewer pipe at the street. - ourtravelsExplorerwww.sanidumps.com may be of help.
- HandbasketExplorerSome (most?) Flying J truck stops that have an RV fuel island have dump stations, but charge $10 these days to use them. That may be discounted if you have their fuel loyalty card, not sure. I Think some other brands of large 'travel centers' have them, but not sure. I think Flying J lists the amenities available at each place on their website.
NFS & NPS GC's will allow you to use their dump stations for $5-$10.
