Where to go in So. California

I know there are a lot of places, butwhere did you love to go for a few days. I do not mind dry camping. We have been going to Las Vegas often but that is a little longer than I would like. What do you suggest. Thank You
  • Lake Cachuma and Lake Casitas and they are in your backyard.
  • Los Angeles nat'l forest, Kennedy meadows, Alamo Mtn off the grape vine. In the winter Red Rock canyon. There so many it would take pages o list.
  • The beaches, mountains or deserts. :E

There are CA state parks at all of those types of destinations, just go to reserveamerica.com and find a CA State park to suit your taste. The down side is most of them are full 6 months in advance, especially on weekends (on & off season) :S

Other people mentioned indian casinos with RV campgrounds, that's a nice option as well.

    Happy Trails!
  • Borrego Springs in the winter. Death Valley for the 49ers celebrations in November. Lone Pine area. Palm Springs area. Joshua Tree. Quartzsite?? :)
I guess Las Vegas would be a last choice for us.
  • Temecula is lovely, we like Pechanga as an RV resort, then spending a day at the wineries and antiques around town. Buelton is another good bet. Ventura RV Resort is nice, not really on the beach, but nice.
  • Oh, and silver strand state beach in san diego is awesome too. Make sure you get a beach front spot if you go.
  • Big bear lake area is nice. Depending on what you want to do, sand season is just around the corner for those of us that love to thrash the dunes. Glamis, gordon's well and buttercup are my favorite places in california. Ofcourse, november is the soonest you can go to the dunes if that's what you're into(too hot).
  • Boulder Creek in Lone pine is pretty cool. Pool, showers, hookups, lot of exploring local. 395 north a few hours north of L.A., or from 15 on our side.

Or, Johnson Valley. Drycamping at Cougar buttes on west side, on soggy drylake, Boone road on the east side. all off of hwy 247 going east out of Lucerne. Rockhounding, offroading, ??
