Back in 04 I drove a DP with a smaller engine that had 300 HP and 650 ft/lbs of torque. Then I drove the one that we bought. It has the 8.3 liter Cummins with 330 HP and 950 ft/lbs of torque. What a difference! I think todays newer DPs have the 6.7 liter with about 340 to 360 HP but only about 700 ft/lbs of torque. We have made several coast to coast trips and many in between with a toad and I am glad for the power we have. Maybe the higher HP today makes up for the lower torque, I don't know. This was just a thought I had about today,s DPs. Ours weighs 25250 lbs. loaded for a trip.
