This topic gets beat to death here...comes up about every 2-3mos.
If you choose to do the procedure differently than what your manufacturer calls for...well, that's your choice. Diesels typically have different leveling systems than gassers do, and I suspect that accounts for most of the differences in manufacturer's instructions.
Mine calls for jacks first, then level. I believe the reason for that is that it places less strain on the jacks. Maybe not much, and probably not enough to matter...but that's what Fleetwood calls for ON MY RIG, so that's what I do.
I have a 22ft wall slide on drivers side. If that slide were to be extended first, and the driver's side is low, the jacks are going to work harder to pick that side up to level the coach. Once it's level, the jacks are still supporting that additional weight, and they're rated for that, but less force on the jacks while doing the leveling.
And yeah, I use a LEVEL for my leveling system :)
If I had a "stablizing" system, maybe my instruction manual would tell me to do something differently :)
