JMHO, but I tend to buy new and keep the rig for a long time. I have more options on warranties, I can find the teething problems rather than trust that the PO actually bothered to fire up the generator or drop the awning after the PDI, etc.
As for cost per mile... it is a dice roll either way. I rather buy new since at least it won't be absolutely blind, and in general, stuff that breaks in the first year will be warrantied.
I'm not buying a RV as a financial investment. I will eat the depreciation hit, but the advantage is that I know where the rig has been all its life, how it has been stored, how winterization was done, how the roof was maintained, and so on. The depreciation hit is worth the peace of mind to me, and the fact that I get at least 2-3 more years of being able to stay at various campgrounds before being forever banished by the ten year rule, and this can be the difference between having a nice time at a resort versus having to completely change plans and eat the reservation cost since the resort won't allow anything older than model year 2003 on their property.
