Good question. They come that way from the factory. Ford sells a complete platform to the coach builder. Yes they are handey to see what is going on behind you and as someone said in some coaches you can see out the rear window. I had one that had a magnifying lens on the back window so you could see behind you. I don't have one now and miss it.
