I've heard people who wanted to buy a motorhome because they thought they could travel cheaply. I think they get disappointed when they find out that usually isn't the case. By the time you pay for fuel and your payments and your RV space and repairs and $6k tires, etc. driving the car and staying in hotels is way cheaper. So if money is your motive I tell people don't get an RV. You get an RV for comfort, and for sleeping in your own bed, and for being able to barbeque outside your front door, and things like that.
I think it is cheaper to travel in a class A vs Hoteling and Restaurants and especially when you're on the road for the whole summer and then some. As for overall ownership, with first buying and then selling it, that's the hobby portion of it and hobbies are never cheap, even though, I've made out on every one of them so far. However lucky, this never works for buying new and newer and for hiring out most of the repairs, mods and what have you.
