will I get my money???

I purchased a 2007 Damon Tuscanny with a Cat C7 engine. That cat ran without any problems until last week. Heading north on Rt 65 out of Alabama I heard a noise out back, then water temp hit critical mass. Limped into a campground 2 miles away. Called GoodSam towing where they had taken me to a diesel repair shop. Sat there a week for repairs to the fan blade hub bearing. This bearing had no grease fitting. It was the new style bearing system that had problems when engine reached 30 to 50 thousand miles. Mine was around 49,000.
Numerous post on the net had individuals with the same problem. I was told by a cat parts rep, the new hub would last around 40,000 miles.
By the time I got back on the road the invoice racked up near $4,000.00.(Ouch)
Since Cat had problems with this hub bearing, I wonder if they would help with the cost on the parts? What is the opinion out there? I will go for it!!

  • I guess it never hurts to ask. However, if the NEW hub is only expected to have a service life of 40,000 miles, my guess is that they will maintain that this is a maintenance item and the failure at 49,000 miles was to be expected and was not a failure of a component that should have had a much longer service life.
  • I have no idea if Cat will help with the cost.
But, it's a 2007 rig. My guess would be no.
Unless they have a really good warranty.
