Will My Class Flip Over?

My driveway slopes about 10 degrees. If I'm turning my Class A, 20,000#, F53, 32' motorhome around, I have to get it sideways on the hill. Any danger of it falling over on it's side?

I know that sounds ridiculous but it really looks scary. I haven't tried it yet. I guess that's obvious or the title of the thread would be "I Flipped My Rig In The Driveway". :)

I drove our ClassA Hurricane around the Nascar track at Bristol one year. Believe me, the bottom of those curves are NOT level. It's real scary to look out your side window if you are on the low side. They told me that the only problem was that I wasn't going fast enough. Seems like it's not as noticable when you are moving over 90-100 mph.

According to this: NASCAR Track Banking the race roadway at Bristol is from 24 to 30 degrees. Doesn't say what the apron bight be.

why not just back it into the drive and eliminate the 180?

Does that mean you think it might flip if I do the 180?

In order to back in the drive I have to back up the mile long road with several blind S turns to get to the drive too. Plus I'd have to back off the main highway to get on the road that goes to the driveway.

    Here's one that didn't.

Well, that's a whole lot more slope than my drive. Thanks.

  • Just a guess, but I'd think that the center of gravity (CG) of your MH would be located somewhere near the center of tires fore and aft, at the centerline, and about 4-5 feet above the ground. You would need to get the CG over the downhill tires for the MH to fall over. That seems pretty unlikely.
