The rating also may be lower because with that added equip, they didn't want the tongue weight. The tongue weight on the 3500# hitch is 350#, where the 2000# is around 200# (or 180#??). With generator, batteries and lp hanging back past the rear axle, it may be near the max with the anticipated cargo aboard. Just speculation.
