Window Awning

I don't take any chances with my patio awning, and roll it up anytime I'm not around and there's a possibility of storms.

But do I need to be as cautious with window awnings? They're smaller and more secured, so can I reasonably assume they'll be okay and leave for the day even if there's a possibility of storms? Obviously, they're a big help reducing heat caused by the sun...

Same here. The problem is the motor is so slow, once it starts to roll up, the storm could have blown through and be gone. When in any doubt at all about the weather, we roll them up, all of them.
  • Try to "guesstimate" the weather best you can. We put ours up if it looks to be really windy, but most often, the window awnings are down even if we roll up the main awning. Our main awning has a setting to automatically roll up based on wind and we set it on medium. We have come back and found it rolled up.
  • If it gets "too windy" or we are going to be away for the day and wind is forcast we put the window awnings up. Friend left his down one day and we returned to find the awning hook on the side of the motor home broken off and the awning rolled up undamaged. We go for safer than sorry.
  • My late husband and I had a Foretravel with window awnings all around. We seldom used the patio awning but left the window awnings down most of the time, even in Yuma where it gets very windy. Maybe we took them up if there was going to be wind of 50mph or more. They were very sturdy awnings.
