Install a RELAY so that the switch only has a load of under one amp (enough to close the relay). That will make your switch last forever and also make your headlights a lot brighter, since they will not have that voltage drop. Should also stabilize your voltmeter, as the power for the headlights is not going through that circuit.
Thanks. I just bought a replacement online. I will receive it in a few days, probably a little over a week.
I cleaned up the old one and reinstalled it temporarily. After cleaning the rheostat coil, blowing dirt out with compressed air, it works better now, but I will replace it as soon as I get the new one.
As for the relay: I assume that to make it work right, I would also need to route a heavy gauge wire, all the way from batteries to the front of the RV, right? Is there some heavy duty 12v terminal in front of the RV already, where I can tap the load side of the relay?
Additionally, would I benefit from modern headlight upgrade, like LED lights?
