Yes, there should be a large-gauge wire to the front. A good place to look is on the battery side of the ignition solenoid.
Install an in-line fuse, then large gauge wire from there to the new relay. Use the existing wiring from switch as the "signal" to close the relay. If there is little voltage drop between relay "out" to light elements, use existing wire. If more than .2 VDC drop, consider running larger gauge wire from relay to lights.
