I have stayed at an RV resort in Palm Springs a few times, and I remember a few years ago where the wind was really bad. The good thing was that the wind was from west to east and the resort had lots of big trees blocking the wind for the coaches that were in the resort. It never really bothered us much. Now with winds over 40 mph I would not get on the highways at all. I done it once and it damaged the sprocket on the awning. Luckily I spotted it in time and I stopped in a rest area and secured it so that it would not unravel. They can do lots of damage to the coach if they unravel and the awning acts like a parachute slamming against the coach causing lots of damage.
