Winnebago Mileage Info

I thought someone may find this to be useful info. We recently travelled from Florida to Michigan in our 2015 Winnebago Itasca Sunstar 27N Class A without towing a vehicle. The coach had around 2600 miles on it when we started so it was not fully broken in. Our mileage on fairly flat ground was 7.6. In the mountains it dropped to 6.4 and in very hilly but not mountainous terrain it averaged 6.9. I left the coach on cruise in the Smokies, it performed very well and did not loose speed climbing the steep grades. I was also pleasantly surprised that it engine braked itself downhill and I did not have to hit the brakes at all. The coach now has around 4200 miles on it and we're hoping (or maybe dreaming) that mileage will improve over time. Probably should be hoping instead that gas prices stay low. Hope this helps someone.

  • Okay, thanks for the good advice everyone. I kept the speed control pegged on 65mph with the tow/haul off. I'll follow everyones advice next time.

In a 27 ft MH which I am sure is lighter than my 33 ft MH, I drive between 55- 62 MPH and average 8.7 MPG over 80,000 miles. Once your MH is broken in and you get used to driving it I would guess your MPG's will improve. Don't use OD when your in the hills, anticipate the hills and gradually give it more gas before you start your climb, try to keep it from constantly downshifting and upshifting on the hills and your MPG's will improve.
  • What speed do you drive?

A critical factor when it comes to pulling a huge box through the air!
  • Seems a little low for a no tow. I am on the last leg of about 6000 miles towing every mile a 4-runner and doing about the same, from Washington state to mid Texas and back up to 8000 feet and one bunch of pass's and hills plus wind that just won't quit. 2004 Minni Winni 31 with the V10. But there doesn't seem tobe a lot of MPG difference 6-8 over all.
Got a fuel flow on mine and 2-3 gear at 4000 towing hard up to 16 GPH, now that suck's. But it doesn't last long.

  • If you have the V10 engine I think I recall it is programmed to run a bit on the rich side for the first 10,000 miles to ensure a proper break-in. So your MPG should improve a bit after that. I noticed a slight improvement on mine, and a BIG improvement when I traded it in.
  • Yeah, it's the Ford F53 chassis. I'll try the tow haul feature next time. Thanks.
  • Well leaving the cruise on in the Smokies or any other hilly country is not recommended.
I live in these TN. Hills. I have set the cruise when going down some hills. Which will maintained speed going down.
You will get better mpg without it. Save it for the Flat Lands.

You do not mention what chassis you have. I am guessing it is on a Ford chassis. If so turn on the Yiw Haul feature when going down the hills. Tapping the brake than will cause trans. To down shift also.

Your MPG is about right. Depending on your speed, wind and terrain.
