Wireless temperature stations

I recently purchased a wireless temperature station from CW. Item 74810. It has a "station" which sits on the counter and gives inside, outside temps with time and date. The outside sensor is about 6 inches long and works off two AA batteries.

I would like suggestions on where to mount the outside sensor.
I thought about wire tying it to the slideout awning bracket, but I am afraid the while traveling down the road I will loose it.

My son suggested mounting it to the inside of the hood, but I think the heat from the motor will give off false readings.

Any ideas??

Thanks for you help.

  • Mine is mounted close to the horn which puts it ahead of the tires and below and in front of the engine. This keeps it away from those two heat sources while on the road. When I'm stopped in traffic it will read over 100 quickly. Other than that small exception, it seems to be pretty accurate.
  • I mounted ours, in the propane compartment, on back wall with velcro. Our compartment is not open on bottom but has a vent about knee high.
Not sure it is the best site on the road as it may be picking up higher temp from road surface but parked on a site it seems reasonable close.
  • In the wet bay so you can see if your water hook ups are in freeze danger.
  • Like K Charles, mine is mounted under the dining room slide. Its completely out of the sun and lots of air around it. I never look at it while traveling but it seems to be pretty accurate when parked and camping.
  • Depends on how accurate you want the readings to be. You could simply hang it on a nearby tree which would give you a pretty accurate reading. I attached mine to the roof of the forward bay housing the propane tank since it's open to the street below. I used double sided tape although I thought about using some JBWeld and an Alnico magnet.....the double sided tape has worked for several years so I've never changed it...yet...:).....Dennis
  • On our TT it's under the slide, it's always in the shade. It may not be right when the slide is in but it does a good job when the slide is out.
  • I hae a 74809, almost the same thine. I hang my outside sensor on the shady side of my fifth-wheel, which usually means moving it at mid-day. Hanging it under a slide solves the problem of rain. During travel, it goes into a storage bay along with water hose and TV cable. Putting it out is just one small step during hook-up.
  • Mounting it to the Motorhome presents some problems, mainly, will the sensor be in direct light wherever you're parked, etc. If I were you, I'd consider just laying it outside on each trip. I have a travel trailer so I put mine in a ziplock baggie and hung it inside the propane tank compartment.
