Wiring Daigram for Dash Mounted Round Solar Regulator

I am trying to locate a wiring diagram for the small 1-1/4 inch solar panel regulator in my MH. It has a red LED in the middle and was common in the 2007 time frame. The regulator is dash mounted and has four wires, red, green, yellow and black. Probably a 5 watt capacity.

Thanks

Alan

  • Unfortunately I don't have a Newmar and the third owner of this Thor West Pinnacle RV. The wiring to this regulator has changed and I'm trying to straighten it out. If you have the opportunity I would appreciate your help and if possible the mfg of the regulator.
  • Volkswagen use to ship their diesel powered cars with such a solar panel. It was often removed at the dealer and thrown into the trash. It must have had a built in regulator, as you just plug it into the cigarette lighter plug.

Thanks for the info. Any chance you would know the polarity of the yellow green pair?

I have it at work, but if you have a Newmar, there are 2 quick connect plugs behind the dash. Doubtful that it was miswired 7 years ago. Just connect a volt meter and it will show voltage regardless. It may show reversed polarity if you misconnect, but all you want to know is IF the roof panel is working. If it shows -21 volts or thereabouts, you know your probes are reversed. You then know which is neg and Pos. The Dash LED was the usual failure on that system. Doug

  • Newmar used that solar panel and yes, it is a 5 watt panel. It is to keep the chassis batteries charged when stored. The yellow and Green go to the roof top solar panel and the Black and Red go to the chassis battery. Newmar used it for at least 10 years from 1999 to 2009. The Dash pad is the regulator. Check the voltage between the Green and yellow (dc) In sunlight the Voltage will be about 17 to 22 volts. Check with the wires disconnected from the LED regulator. IF No dc voltage, the solar panel is either bad or the wires at the panel have come loose or are corroded. IF you have voltage, then the Dash LED regulator is bad. Doug
