Worry About Possible Problems

As I have been spending more time in my coach, I find that I worry about what could go wrong. I worry about what maintenance I am missing. If you look at the maintenance list that is given at the factory, it is intimidating. I feel like I would spend all my time maintaining the coach and no time enjoying it. I worry about what I might be missing. I worry about what I do not know that could hurt me. I do not understand why my car is so simple to maintain but the engine and transmission in the coach seems to be more complicated – not taking into account the house systems.

I have had some issues but (knock on wood) nothing big so far. So it is not that I have had a horrible experience. However, the more I learn, the more I realize what could go wrong. Also, reading the posts here is kind of scary because I read about all of the things that go wrong with people’s coaches.

I purchased this coach to enjoy it and not worry about it. How do you not worry about what may happen? Any advice?

You do the maintenance that you can do and pay others to do the things you don't want to or can't do. You go on your trips and you enjoy the ride and the whole experience. If something breaks during a trip you deal with it. Pretty simple really.
Remember, you just do not read very often when someone posts on here that they just got back from a trip and did not have any problems, even tho it happens more than you think. This is a place where people usually post about a problem but in reality the posts here only represent a very small percentage of people that are enjoying the RV life style. I have had many trips with zero problems and a few with minor problems. The ONLY trip I had in the past 150,000 miles that caused any delay was only because I had to wait for a part to be delivered. As it turned out we were in a great place in Dutch John, Utah and we enjoyed our stay in a place that we would have bypassed had it not been for the problem so even tho it interrupted our original plans, we are glad that it did.

    X2.
We have never had a break-down in almost 70,000 miles. I have the coach maintained regularly. Sure, we've a couple of things to do along the way but nothing to stop us. Never a flat/blow-out, I monitor the tires closely by checking the pressure before each departure. Once, I found a loose valve stem, tightened it, fill back with air so there were no problems.

Two years ago we were 60 miles from Kansas City, MO, when I developed a leak in a heater hose (rubbed on engine causing hole). I was losing anti-freeze but was able to make to the Cummins facility. We stayed in their lot while the part was installed the next day.

Just keep yours eyes open and enjoy everything the best that you can.

  • All I can do is LOL. I will really try to hold back all my thoughts. The only question I have for you is this. Do you worry about your slide outs working every time you use them? :)
  • I don't want to add to your worries, but your car and house do have just as many things to go wrong. You're nor worrying (and rightly so) about them all day long. Treat the MH the same way.

Do your maintenance - oil changes, lube the slides, change the wiper blades, check the tire air pressure and enjoy it.

(when was the last time you checked the air pressure in your car tires?)
