If so deal may not be all that bad. Perhaps it's the total deal you could look at. In other words, if they did 5k less on the trade in and 5k less on the new one you end up in the same place.

Actually, depending on the state you are in and how taxes and registration works, if they give you $5k less on the trade and take $5k off the price, you may be significantly better off. In California you would save up to 9 percent of that $5k in sales tax ($450) plus part of your registration fee is based on initial purchase price and then it goes down year after year. So you would save on your annual registration for many years. Whenever I trade something I always try and get the best possible price on what I'm buying then take what I can get on the trade.
