Would this upgrade work for my e450?

I am looking to smooth out the ride on our Nexus 28p built on e450 chassis. I also want to raise the back end a little to add more clearance. My plan was to add Koni FSD shocks on the front and air bags on the rear.

Wondering if anyone has done this combination and their experiences?

Thank you in advance

  • I had air bags on my E-450, 30 foot Cambria already. I installed Koni shocks and the thread is here ---Koni FSD shocks installed (updates).---- I can't figure out how to do links so search and it will come up. Now with just the shocks front and rear the slamming, banging, window rattling that happened over railroad tracks etc stopped. I then started testing the air bags with the shocks, starting with 20psi and adding more as I traveled. I found that with about 40 psi in the air bags with no trailer the ride is smooth. With a heavy 20ft. trailer I air up to 80 to 90 psi and the ride is real smooth. 80 to 90 with an empty trailer hitch is NG.
  • The air bags won't smooth your ride unless you are hitting the bump stops on the rear axle. If you aren't hitting the bump stops, the air bags will only increase your spring rate and make the ride more harsh.
