Yellowstone advice?

I dropped down into the NOrth entrance. left via the south. I would avoid the NE,E,etc.

You might consider taking the interstate to Livingston, MT then south to Yellowstone Edge RV Park and then take the FROG into the park.

Also drive over to Chico Hot Springs to have a hot tub experience and a meal.

Other choice is up through Salt Lake City into Idaho and entering Yellowstone from the West. I have done it both ways and like the first suggest route.

Go through Casper and then Riverton through the Wind River Reservation. Stay at Dubois(we like the Longhorn Ranch Park) then take highway 26 to Moran and go in the south entrance. This is an easy and beautiful drive.

If you plan to stay in West Yellowstone, I would suggest going up thru Idaho - you can cut off from I-80 to I-15 on the I-84 spur route to Ogden UT, which is a bit less steep of a pull, or you could take US 30 from I-80 in sw Wyoming, which will connect with I-15 in southern Idaho (missing all the SLC traffic). Some decent CGs along the way: Montpelier KOA is nice; Pocatello KOA is a good overnight stop; decent little county-run CG near (but not right next to) I-15 in Shelley. Grizzly RV is a great CG, IMO; we almost always stay there when visiting the park. Should have room for your rig; not many CGs do for something that size, especially inside the park.

You can come down to West Yellowstone from the north (I-90), but will be driving through Bozeman traffic for a while. Take 191 south from Bozeman to West Yellowstone - very nice drive on a good 2-lane road.

Haven't been the Casper-Riverton route but it's probably fine; Dubois is a nice stop (we have been at the KOA twice and like it as well), and Togwotee Pass, east of Dubois, is a fairly easy pass with beautiful scenery, no steep climbs, good road. Of course, if you go in any other park entrance, you will be driving through the park to get to West - it's do-able, but a lot easier in just the toad than with your entire rig.

Definitely avoid the NE and East entrances - especially NE!

There are several different way to get to Ft Collins CO... all about the same distance as you do not say anything about stops in route. North of Ft Collins I would use 287 to cut the corner from I-25 to I-80. At Rawlings get back on 287 all the way to the Tetons. Sinks Canyon Sp in Lander is worth a stop as is a couple day in the Tetons. From the south entrance to West Yellowstone is a easy route although it can be busy. Eat lunch on balcony overlooking Old Faithful... on the second level of the lodge.

Since you have a 43' RV you won't be staying in Yellowstone itself. I'd recommend staying in West Yellowstone. To get there get on I-80 at some point and pick up 191 at Rock Springs, WY (Exit 111). Take 191 into Hoback Junction then west to Alpine, WY. Then pick up Hwy 26 taking you into Idaho Falls. Then north on ID20 to West Yellowstone. It's all easy driving...no high mountains.

I'm with Ivylog and Tommy G on those routes through the middle of Wyoming by Getting up to 80 and Cheyenne. Sinks Canyon is nice, so is the Dubois route. It's all good. These will get you there the fastest. I'm from Montana and although those areas are amazing, it is farther.

So, it depends upon your time frames. You want efficient go with Ivylog and Tommy G's routes. That will also get you the Tetons. Want to see Montana head north and across. But you will need a couple more days to do that way right. There is also the route through Cody and the east entrance. That is beautiful also. You can't go wrong. There are no bad choices here.

I like to drive hard at the start of a trip. I fell the excitement pumps me to push it. I always go to my farthest stop first then work my way back home. I am planning on stoping in Jackson on the way back. I know I can knock out the 2000 miles in 2.5 days. I drive to Disney 700 miles straight a couple times a year. My concern is the roads to the west side. Since there is not an interstate direct to the west side I need some opinions on the route from Louisiana.

Not knowing where you're leaving, I chose Lafayette, LA. From there take I-49 to Shreveport; I-20W to Dallas; I-35 N to I-70 at Saline, KS; I-70 W to Denver; North on I-25 to I-80West. See my above post on one option from I-80 at Rock Springs. This would bypass your driving through both Grand Teton & Yellowstone parks to get to W. Yellowstone if you took 287 off I-80. You'd go to Idaho Springs and then north faster than 287 but you'd add 100 miles. Going through the parks is o.k. but it's slow-going. Park your MH then do your driving through the parks.

You'll have 1800-2000 miles from Louisiana and it's all easy driving.

Ourselves, we dislike interstates and big cities so we would find secondary routes and enjoy the scenery.

Where are you going after Yellowstone/Tetons? It seems like the national parks are all 500 miles apart except for the Tetons/Yellowstone... 50 miles. How are you planning on getting from West Yellowstone to Jackson? I hope it is not on 22 over Teton Pass. I think you will find it makes better sense to go to the Tetons on 287 first and then in the south entrance of Yellowstone to West Yellowstone especially coming from Louisiana.
