Yellowstone and 30ft Motorhomes

Hi,
We finally began our road trips for this year, and tried the 25 ft Class C Motor home last month.

We are planning a trip to Yellowstone this week, and wondering if there will be any difficulty or challenges with a 30 FT Motorhome. This is our first time driving this far. ( from Salt lake City to Yellow Stone National Park ).

Questions
1) Would you recommend a 25 FT and use the SUV to drive around the park ?
2) Would you recommend a 30 Ft Motorhome and leave the car back, and drive around in the Motorhome within and around the park.

Would really appreciate your suggestions and inputs.

Yuvi.

we went to yellow Stone with a 40ft. DP don't drive around in a 30ft mh use your car or suv. No place to park a large mh you will miss too much..try to stay at fishing bridge rv park it is in Yellowstone. You will love it.

A shorter unit will give you a better choice of campgrounds and sites.
It's easier to drive through the park in a car/pickup/SUV, than a motorhome, but it can be done either way. I would go with option 1.
Some of the roads in and around the park are winding, up and down, and a little narrower, but not sure if that figures into your decision, if one of your units is wider.
  • Are you bringing a toad? Sightseeing in the park with a 30 footer will be a hassle.
  • So you’re going to tow a SUV with a 25’ but not with a 30’?
I’ve driven all over Yellowstone and didn’t see anywhere that 30 wouldn’t fit. Depending on crowds.
The roads and parking areas all accomodate RVs that size that I can think of. But bigger = less options to park. But 25’ keeps you out of car parking spots anyway.
  • Route 89 south from Mammoth to the intersection for West Yellowstone was tough to drive in 2016 with our 31'- maybe because of my inexperience. Two years later we came into the park from Red Lodge and had no trouble. The road from Cody is effortless. Hope that helps your general query.
  • Thank you, @#bobndot.

We will be driving from Salt lake city to Ponyexpress RV park, and then drive to LaDuke Springs Campground in Gardiner. Wondering how the drive would be since this is our first time with a Motorhome.
