yellowstone trip

I have a 40 foot phaeton. I will be driving west from tennesseeye to the Yellowstone area. I want to go to the grand Teton area and also Yellowstone. I have plenty of time and if getting into those areas from the west is easier I can easily drive around through salt lake city and come in from the west. I just don't want to get on a curvy mountain road that will not wotk with a 40 foot motorhome. Any suggestions? Thanks

We are thinking about leaving Tennessee toward the end of June and getting back in August.

  • I have always gone in from the south-east. From Casper it is a long but magnificent ride through the plains of Wyoming and then through the Wind River reservation. We always stay in Dubois at The Longhorn Ranch park right on the Wind river. From there we go west to Moran Junction which is between the two parks. Going in from the south of Yellowstone is no problem for us. We are 37ft plus a toad. Have a good trip and soak it all in. Yellowstone is our favorite place. We'll be back this summer!
  • It's been awhile, but I believe the east entrance and the road leading up to it has some big curvy grades. Looking at the map, you could take I-70 and then work you're way north and come in through the south entrance. The south entrance takes you through Jackson Hole and past the Grand Tetons.

There is a nice campground, for the area, in Jackson Hole, called the Virginian. It fills up fast. From Jackson Hole you can see all of the Grand Tetons and surrounding area easily with a car.

We leave for Yellowstone (Fishing Bridge) in two weeks, will stay in Yellowstone for a week, three days in Jackson Hole and then onto Bryce/Zion for three days.

You don't say what time of year you're going, but if it's soon, the weather may play a factor coming in the east entrance.

Always check the Yellowstone road conditions because during the Spring and Summer they do all their road repairs and often roads (entrances) can be closed.
