SWMO, thanks much! That might work. It's worth a try. We'll let you know how it works. DH can't wait to pack it in the TC and smoke some fresh fish.

This might sound pretty odd, but could you try the wood sawdusts and grind them in a coffee grinder, or food processor? It might be too tough on the appliance, but if you have an old one laying around-it might be worth a try.

This company sells pure dust. A lot of Masterbuilt owners use their product, but I haven't. much of the attraction to sawdust is the fact that it will smolder once it is lit and doesn't have to rely on heat from the smoker.
I suspect this would work just fine in your smoker.

It's called "Swedish Smoker" from Impecco. The pamphlet that came with it states it's imported from Sweden and distributed by Impecco, LTD.

At the time you could buy the smoker for $12.95 and the smoke dust cost $1.95/bag. It says "a special wood powder mixture from Sweden provides the unique smoke flavor." DH got his "prize for $4.

That's it, that all the info we can get. The pamphlet is yellowed and DH's family used it in the 50's through his childhood. I wish had a date but there is none.
