Angel Food French Toast

This is for when you really need something sweet, but not gooey sweet.

1 loaf of angel food cake (we buy it at the local grocery)
3 extra large eggs
1/4 cup almond milk
1 Tablespoon real maple syrup

Cut loaf into 1/2" slices.

Whisk eggs, milk and maple syrup together.

Thoroughly coat cake slices in egg mixture and cook in an oiled skillet or on an oiled griddle.

Serve warm. No additional syrup needed. Dust with powdered sugar if you wish.

If you use regular milk, add a bit more maple syrup and less milk, to keep the sweetness at about the same level.
  • I bet it would taste delicious using eggnog instead of the almond milk. I think I'll try it.
    YUM!
  • Oh this sounds so good. I need to make this. Thanks for the recipe.
  • My mom discovered this "angel food french toast" in the 1950's as a way to use up left over angel food cake. I remember it was a real treat, but haven't thought about it in many years.
