Big finds at the Thrift Store!

I got an aebleskiver,(sp?) pan and a Romertopf clay baker for $5 each!! They also had a complete Presto stove top pressure cooker, (weight and good gasket included), but I passed on that. It was worth digging out the driveway. BTW: we did NOT get as much snow as predicted. My son suggested that the stores were in cahoots with the weather station-predicted dire amounts of snow so they could unload all remaining shovels and salt to empty the shelves!
Fun, fun! Off to soak my Romertopf!

The wife loves thrift stores and I tag along every so often. Last week was one of those days and I usually just mosey about not getting anything BUT being the gadget person that I am....I came across a Garrett Ace 150 metal detector, in the box in mint condition for 20 bucks. Not quite as good as a 1400.00 Parka but I was pretty jazzed. (its a 150-170 dollar item).

I keep hinting that I would like a metal detector. In the US do they have found treasure laws?
  • In June, 2000 I needed a new µwave oven so I went to the SA thrift store and found an RCA combo (broiler, toaster, oven and µwave oven) for $15.00. I used it for 10 years and gave it to a friend who is still using it.

  • Our local Thrift store is run by the Mennonite Central Commitee. The items received there is unbelievable.

I love the stoneware baking pans. I have got quite a few pampered chef items. It is great to see that the stigma and thrift shops has disappeared.

Bravo, loulou, and good on you for knowing what they had, even if they may not have! You done good!
  • My "new in the box" clay baker came to be mine at an auction sale for $8. I love it for chicken and beef roasts. When I found another one, I gave it to our grandson & girlfriend. They love to cook and have fallen in love with it too.
  • My best thift store find was a china set with cannisters for $60. The cannisters alone retailed for way more than that and I Googled the plates when I got home and they retailed for $25 a place setting. It seems like each thrift store kind of specializes in different mechandise. I have 3 or 4 that I frequent and get different prizes at each, some for clothes, another for kitchen and yet another for furniture type items.
  • Loulou57, what you did is awesome. God Bless you! I love a thrift stores. I haven't paid retail for clothes for myself in years. We clothed my grands out of consignment shops and yard sales. They wore name brands and I remember one darling little blue coat I got for my GD: an almost new London Fog for $20.00. She wore it 2 years and my little niece wore it a couple years.
  • I love a good rummage through a thrift store. I have found some great finds also.. One that sticks in my mind was a deal from our local mennonite thrift store. It was a Lundstrom Parka. It had a price tag of $12.00. I bought it, got it cleaned and drove it over to a high end consignment shop. The lady put a price tag on it at $1400.00 She sold it in a week, my share was $700.00 so I went back to our shop where I bought it and gave them all but my $12.00 I paid them for it.

Thrift stores are great! So many things can be bought there for your RV or any camping experience.
