There is nothing comparable...only GM built light-duty diesel pickups in the 90s.

Oh, I would have totally bought that. Both of mine have been flippers. People who didn't want to mess with the issues present with the 6.5s. Sold em both for good money. Last one was in real good shape, not as good as the OPs with 200kmi on it. Sold it for more than 3 grand.

That is one hell of a deal. I recently sold a 96 1500 (5.7l) single cab short bed 4x4 with 77k for my mechanic for $6.5K that was in great shape but not as pristine as yours. I posted it during the week and got calls everyday until it sold on the Sat to a couple who drove 3-4 hours to get it.

I believe with older/niche vehicles savvy buyers care less about rebuilt titles and more about the rarity and if the repairs were done right.

There used to be a good following for 6.5L's with plenty of websites/sources of info and parts. I almost bought one years ago and had planned on updating and modding it to make it more reliable. Parts were really affordable and then there was a supply on new updated (Optimizer) long blocks that were fairly cheap (4-5k).

They also used these engines in RV's and marine applications. They updated the engines at some point (2004 iirc) for use in the Humvee.

To the OP you have to realize the negative comments come with the territory here. Some of them just wished they ran across it first and they would be posting about buying it instead of you lol

I just bought an '02 Silverado ext. cab 4x4 gasser. I shopped hard for a decent, low miles truck in excellent condition and found one, for $8800. That said, in this area anything with a diesel and 4wd is at least $5K and looks nothing like the pics. of the OP's great score. Typically at the $5K mark, you're looking at a well beaten, super high miles unit with rotted rockers and fender lips, and a real mess underneath, rust wise. When it comes to spending $3K, in my area, you probably won't find anything worth dragging home, maybe if your lucky, a gas engine 2wd, regular cab with lots of rot and 1/4 million miles on. I could take the OP's fire truck, toss a new gas motor in and still come out ahead in this market. Bottom line is that $3K was a steal.

OK, So i am a year later and off........The mcehanical was a better version to hop up! to a degree.....

I still wish I had the 96! Altho it would probably have 400-500K miles on it....that part might not be too much fun!

93/94 had the mechanical injection. IIRC it was 95 for the first electronic. I know 96 had it with the OBDII computer, 95 had the OBDI version......

Nope. 93 was the last year for MI. 94 was the first year for electronic injection.

93 was first year turbo, last year mech IP DS2 pump. 94 and up was the DS4 pump, electronic.
Had 2 94s, one back in the day, one recently.
Not to muddy the waters for the OP, that is one clean, low miles, nice truck for the $.
