Blenders that crush ice

Looking for a blender for son in-law. He would use it for smoothie's and puts ice, frozen fruit. I would like to pay around $60 or under. I don't need it to be a food processor and don't need extra cups etc.. He had a cuineart (SP?) for nine years that just quit. Any suggests? Was looking at the Hamilton Beach Wave Crusher Multi-Function Blender 54220 700 watt. on amazon. $42.98.
  • X3 on the VitaMix, the corporation also sells as-new refurbs for around $275.00. We've previously owned the Ninja above, Osters, and Hamilton Beach, etc., but there's no comparison to the VitaMix for smooth, consistent mixing results. That said, Consumer Reports likes the small $60.00 Ninja in their ratings, this looks like the Magic Bullet but gets great reviews for various VitaMix-type blending chores for a lot less money.

I have a VitaMix now but it's a major investment. Would never go back tho.

X2. The VitaMix is an unbelievable machine. You can even make a soup from scratch, and it will be warm! We will never own a regular blender again (probably won't need to either, I believe this VitaMix might even last forever). It is expensive, but it is rock solid unit. No cheap-y parts here.
  • Hands down the best blender I have ever used is the ninja .... Believe we got it at Costco. We make smoothies and margs and it blends ice really well...

  • I have a Magic Bullet in the RV and I use it often. Costco has it for about $44.
  • We have been pleased with our Kitchen Aid. They are about $100 new but can be found occasionally for less.
