    A stick....:)

    Me, too.

If a stick is unavailable I ask my Husband to "hold this for a minute". :)
  • We always used two metal rods (legs off of an old table) that are L shaped. They lay across the rocks parallel to each other and give a good surface to hold pans and the height is easily adjusted by adding rocks at the contact points. Been using this method ever since our tent camping days.
  • Depends what I'm cooking. I have a tripod that can be used as a crossbar for hanging cast iron pots, a Campfire grill forgrilling items or using cast iron pans, or Dutch ovens, either hanging or on the ground or near the fire. Also love baked potatoes wrapped in foil and thrown in the coals. Oh yeah,.sometimes use the pie irons.
  • I use an old grate I thought about getting a tri pod thingamger but then I wouldn't have to look for rocks and what not to balance it on to support my expensive steaks on!

Out west that look's like works better then rocks
  • We use grates, baskets, cast skillets, wiener sticks, aluminum foil and green tree branches.
  • I have an old clean oven rack that I place on the fire ring. It's from a full size oven so usually big enough. Some meats I can put directly on that and since it has whatever oven racks have on them, it cleans up easily. Smaller items I either wrap in foil or I have grilling pan I can put on top of the rack to let things like shrimp cook. It just has small holes in it and has a cover.
