Use a church key (makes a triangular hole) and punch 4-5 holes in the UNOPENED lid to the can. Heat can and all in the oven long enough to melt the liquids in the can. Drain the liquids. Using a turkey baster, inject your favorite BBQ sauce into the openings in the lid. Return to the oven to heat the ham through. Remove from the oven, and open the can, slice the ham and serve.

This and the mac and cheese suggestion has my vote.

Another option is to fry it up and serve it with an over easy egg on top.

Cubed in mac & cheese or au gratin cheesy potatoes.

Give it to the dog. I love ham but won't eat the canned version, too much salt.

Amy and I were at Menards the other day and I spied a DAK pre cooked canned ham (just like I used to buy when I was a kid) and of course bought it so now I'm reading along for some good ideas to prepare it.

Fried rice

I have made this and it is delicious. This is for 4 servings, but I have made it for up to 24 servings. I got the recipe off of Allrecipes.com several years ago. It's called "Country House Bed and Breakfast Casserole".

"A delicious casserole that can be altered in many ways to change it from day to day. You may substitute bacon or sausage for the ham if you wish. Add peppers, onions, hash browns or anything else that suits your fancy."


Ingredients

1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup croutons
1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
4 eggs
3/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 cup cooked ham, cubed

Directions

Melt butter in an 8x8 inch glass baking dish or small casserole dish. Add croutons and toss to coat. Sprinkle cheese on top of croutons. In a large bowl, beat together eggs, milk and dry mustard. Pour egg mixture over croutons and cheese. Sprinkle on cubed ham. Cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate overnight.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Let casserole stand at room temperature while oven heats.
Bake in preheated oven for 40 minutes, until eggs are set. Let sit for 5 minutes before cutting. Can also be frozen and microwaved later.


I have also made Ham with Pineapple and served over rice. It was yummy, but felt like I was eating a dessert for dinner. (That's not a complaint, just a statement).

Ingredients

2 tablespoons butter
2 1/2 cups cooked and cubed ham
2 green onions, chopped
1 cup pineapple chunks, drained
1 1/3 cups pineapple juice
4 teaspoons cider vinegar
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 teaspoons prepared mustard
2 tablespoons cornstarch

Directions

Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Saute the ham, onions and pineapple chunks in the butter for about 5 minutes.
In a separate medium bowl, combine the pineapple juice, vinegar, brown sugar, mustard and cornstarch. Stir this together well and pour over the ham mixture in the skillet. Stir well and allow to heat through and thicken, about 5 minutes. Serve over white or brown rice.
