I was given a nice old 10" cast iron skillet from the 1950's. Only problem is the former owner sprayed it with WD40 in his garage so she wouldn't rust. Any chance of bringing it back?
We throw it in the fire or into a self cleaning oven, that will burn the oil and probably rancid old seasoning away. Wash it and then re-season it with unsalted lard, then stick it into a oven at 250.
However this is an interesting method to cleanand to season.
